BB: Rangefinder Stellaris

BB: Rangefinder Stellaris

===============================
INSTALLATION
===============================

Run game with both BB: Rangefinder and Beautiful Battles checked. Because I had to add two additional range modules to Atanvaryar’s default Rangefinder, I had to rebuild his whole mod. I repeat, you DO NOT need to check Rangefinder.

It’s probably better to NOT load Rangefinder with BB: Rangefinder. Multiple mods overwriting the same named templates are not good. I added Rangefinder as a necessary file to give credit where credit is due.

===============================
WHAT IT DOES
===============================

Decouples the stats and behaviors of ship battle computers, now allows you to charge in aggressively with defensive stats, or hang back defensively with offensive stats. It also allows you to set each ship model’s preferred engagement range.

WILL THIS BREAK BB: If you use any but the three default behavior models, you will be experiencing a slightly to drastically different visual experience from what Blackthorn intended. I simply decoupled computer behaviors and stats, it is up to you to weigh visual fidelity and practicality.

===============================
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
===============================

This mod does NOT replace Blackthorn’s default computers, the default computer behaviors are still in the game, as changed by Beautiful Battles. If nothing else, you can simply mix and match BB’s default computer stats and behaviors. The additional range settings are there for people that want more fine-tuning capabilities.

===============================
MORE DETAILS
===============================

The 10-30 range modules has identical decision and behavior priorities as Blackthorn’s Swarm modules, the only difference is their preferred engagement ranges are 10/20/30, respectively, from Blackthorn’s 6.

The 40-90 series follows Blackthorn’s Mixed behavior module, which was set at range 15.

The 100-120 series follows Blackthorn’s Bombardment behavior module, which was set at range 20.

===============================
HOW?
===============================

I replaced BB’s 00_ship_sizes.txt and the game’s default 00_utilities_roles.txt.

The first replacement includes Blackthorn’s changes, so ship speed, rotation, and combat speeds. The only thing that’s different is me adding the rangefinder equip slot for each ship model.

The second is used to decouple the computer stats from their behaviors. I DID NOT TOUCH BLACKTHORN’S COMPUTER BEHAVIORS.
